Linocut is one of the oldest techniques for print making. It is similar to woodcut as well as the block printing for creating print artwork. It is a very simple way to come up with new print artworks in limited editions; it just needs couple of basic carving tools, linoleum base to scoop on and appropriate colours.
Linocut uses subtractive cutting method in which part of linoleum is scooped where you want to leave the white page, and keep the parts you want to be inked. It’s all a game of negative and positive spaces and we as artists/Designers should be keen to decide the details that has to be scooped and what has to be left.
